The Fisherman’s Rest

Your local village pub

The Fisherman’s Rest is a traditional village pub where the local people and friendly staff are always pleased to welcome new faces.

Situated by the river Avon we can offer beautiful views from our restaurant and our balcony sun terrace. We have stream side seating and a decking area where alfresco eating and drinking on a warm day is idyllic.

Children are welcome at the Fisherman’s Rest, and adjacent to the stream is a large recreational area with football posts and plenty of space for them to enjoy themselves as well. The pub has its own parking area, and there is plenty of nearby overflow parking over the road, with a safe underpass to access the pub.

The Fisherman’s Rest has two bars, a dining room, and a function room with private bar. We offer meals, snacks, teas and coffees or cream teas, can cater for many dietary requirements, and will try to make individual changes to the menu if you wish. Our supplies are locally sourced within Devon where possible, and all our food is cooked to order. With 24 hours notice we can source most varieties of fish, sustainably caught where possible. Our bars serve real Devon ales supplied by Otter Brewery, and we can offer a good selection of wines from Christopher Piper Wines. Our facilities at the Fisherman’s Rest allow us to cater for large parties in the dining room, or for birthdays, christenings, weddings, funerals, anniversaries and charity events.

Our bars and dining room feature work by several local artists. We have a darts board, a pool table, and a large screen television in the public bar, and dogs are also welcome in both bars. With prior booking we can also offer an evening of skittles with our own skittle alley. For jazz fans the monthly Kingsbridge Jazz Club evenings are hosted at the Fisherman’s Rest, and regular visits from the local Raggle Taggle band feature Irish folk music.

The Fisherman’s Rest is a welcome break for visitors to the village who have come to enjoy everything this area has to offer – the fabulous walks on our local footpaths or our beautiful estuary with its swans, egrets and many other species that make it a bird watchers haven. There is also a slipway in the nearby car park from which boats, canoes and paddle boards can be launched, and many of our visitors come to enjoy a welcome drink or something to eat after messing about on the river.

Temporary Pandemic changes

Please continue to support them – they supported our community so well during Lockdown, but because reduced footfall for the pub has to be introduced, they really need our support now.

NEW SUMMER OPENING HOURS from July 18th – 12.00 noon until 10.00 pm daily.

Following the various changes and guidelines introduced for re-opening the pub, Athenia and Mark are now able to offer distanced seating inside the pub in the downstairs Function Room, and also tables and seating outside. Several gazebos have been kindly lent so that you can enjoy a drink and a meal in the shade or under cover, whatever the weather! They are using the bar downstairs now, with the entrance directly from the car park, and six tables for customers use, all safely distanced to protect and reassure their customers.

They are back to serving meals as well, both to eat there (in or out) or to take away – BUT YOU NEED TO BOOK FIRST FOR ALL OF THESE as space is limited to comply with their self-distancing measures. Please place your order at the bar, with your table number; you can see what’s on offer with their summer menu below.

Sunday Roasts are back on the menu now as well – but pre-booking only please.

Takeaways are now being offered every day, with an enlarged menu (see below), and as before, payment is contactless, and you agree a time slot for collection on ordering your meal.

Full self-distancing measures are in place at the Fisherman’s for your safety, with floor markers, sanitisers, limitation on numbers inside, but access to the toilets is available for all (full sanitising measures there too!)
