Just hours after the last one we have another warning from Devon and Cornwall Police –
“Police received a report from an elderly resident in the Totnes area who had answered the door to a white man in his 40’s purporting to be from Tor Homes. The man briefly flashed an ID badge before stating that a letter had been sent telling the resident that someone would be calling to check their electricity both upstairs and downstairs.
The elderly resident did not recall receiving a letter and refused to let the man in, at which time the man became angry and verbally aggressive; entry was still refused and he left. Enquiries were made with Tor homes who confirmed they had not mailed any letters or sent any workmen to visit the property.
The man was described as a white male, about 5’9″ tall and of stocky build, wearing a light green wet weather jacket and trousers. He had a large face with a red complexion.
Residents living in rented, part rent, or part buy, or bought homes through housing associations or firms , are asked to exercise caution when answering the door to unexpected callers – always put the door chain on if you have one, and never let anyone into your home without first being contacted by the company or landlord.
If you are suspicious of the caller, close and lock your door, ring a neighbour, a family member or call the Police. Thank you”
