The Kingsmen, the local barbershop harmony chorus (based in Kingsbridge), are trying to recruit male singers with a free Learn to Sing course funded by a national music charity. The course will run from Wednesday 20th January through to Wednesday 24th February with a show for family, friends and guests.
You may be a complete singing novice, or never sung in harmony, or else haven’t sung at all for years – it really doesn’t matter. Newcomers will be taught all the basics of singing in harmony parts, as well as the basics of posture, breathing, stance and performance. You would be given three songs to learn during the course and will be provided with the music sheets and a CD with the individual parts recorded (bass, baritone, lead and tenor). The Music Director (Roy Hann) will ascertain which part will suit you, but that is not to say that you can’t try different parts to find the right one.
The Kingsmen are targeting men living within 15-20 miles of Kingsbridge as this is where the rehearsals will be held and where in fact the chorus started almost 25 years ago (in the Crab Shell Inn).
