PARISH COUNCILLOR VACANCY
 We are one councillor short of a full council! We have a vacancy for a parish councillor and we invite applications from interested people. If you would like to be considered please let the clerk know at the address below. If you would like to know more about being a councillor please contact any of the councillors listed below.
The small print concerning the process is set out below. Â Â Â
When a casual vacancy arises, the council must as soon as practicable, give public notice of the vacancy by posting the notice in some conspicuous place or places within the parish or community.
If within 14 days after public notice has been given, at least ten electors give written notice to the proper officer of South Hams District Council at Follaton House, Totnes, TQ9 5NE of a request for an election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election must be held except where a vacancy occurs within six months of the next ordinary elections.
If no by-election is called, the council must as soon as practicable after the 14 day period, fill the vacancy by co-option. If the vacancy falls within the six month period the council may but need not, fill the vacancy.
The council may co-opt whom it pleases to fill a vacancy, provided the person is qualified to be a councillor. The person co-opted must receive a majority of votes of those councillors present and voting at the meeting where the co-option takes place.Â
