Royal British Legion – Poppy Appeal Coordinater needed

Aveton Gifford needs a new Poppy Appeal Coordinater to take over from John Harcus who has recently left the Parish.

The role is voluntary and involves arranging a Poppy Appeal collection (at the Pub, School and Shop etc) and coordinating the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Church War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday. It involves some work for about 2 to 3 weeks annually over the period before and after Remembrance Day. There is no longer a requirement for house to house collections.

Whoever is willing, or may be interested, in taking on the role will have full support and a handover from John Harcus. It also requires approval from the South Devon Poppy Appeal Manager because of the handling of money.

If you are interested in taking on this necessary role please email John Harcus at, copy to the Parish Clerk at

Its worth emphasising that this role is important as it helps to keep the memory of those who died for our freedom alive.
