SCAM AT OUR OWN POST OFFICE – CAN YOU HELP PLEASE?
Dinah has asked for this to be broadcast as far and wide as possible please as somebody may have seen it, or know who it might be to add to the statement she has already given to the police –
Dinah was scammed out of £180.00 – at about 3.30 to 3.45 on Friday afternoon, when the shop was full of very excited noisy children [breaking up for half term] and their parents – a man came to the Post Office counter. He was short, sallow complexion, black hair, tubby/fat with a very thick accent wearing a very dark brown leather jacket with distinctive white stitching on the seams and a grey T-shirt with a large image of Big Ben down the centre of it. He had obviously purposely picked a time when the shop was rammed with people and a long queue built up to require attention. He produced £400 in ten pound notes and asked for them to be changed into £20 pound notes, which I did and counted them out to him. He then said that he did not want the 20’s but Euros and handed me back the money. I said that I could not do it exactly because the exchange rate would not be exactly £400, so he said that he did not that after all, and asked for the £400 in £10s. It was very slickly done, and in all the changes Dinah was done out of £180.
One of the mothers saw him going back to his car as he had blocked her in – the one thing that she remembers is that he had very shiny shoes and his car was silver but could not say what make it was. If any one else saw him that afternoon or noticed the car which was parked in the car park, or recognise his description,, could they let Dinah or the Police know as they would like to follow up any information – so please could you share this post to anyone who might be able to help.
Thank you very much
