Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow – 11th March

Last week’s Curry Night and Skittles which was held in the Fisherman’s Rest was a great success with lots of people turning out. The evening was funfilled, and I have heard a bit of rivalry between certain players broke out, but thankfully nothing too serious! It all added to the atmosphere, and at the end of the evening we had winners in the different categories; the under 18 winner was Oliver Pearson,  Colin Pearson was the mens’ champion, and the ladies’ winner was no other than Caroline Barker, the Rectors wife. Well done to all of you, I’m sure there will be another opportunity soon to show off the skittling skills! The final total raised for AG’S next firework night was £127, so again well done. Tomorrow we have an opportunity again to hone some sporting skills, and I remind everyone that the long awaited darts challenge match between the Cricket Club and the Fisherman’s is taking place tonight at the pub, with star players in the Cricket Club, and who knows who will playing for the pub? An evening of darting excellence is bound to set a few nerves jangling in the two camps, so come on down and have some fun, either as a player or spectator and support this event. The aim is to support our cricketers and raise funds for them. The evening starts at 8pm.

Staying with our cricketers, they will start their nets practice this Sunday, the 13th March. The sessions will start at 11am and continue till 12.30pm. This pre- season preparation is vital for the coming season and everyone is welcome to join in whether you are a seasoned A.G regular our maybe you are thinking of joining our white army this year? In any case please feel free to join our boys at the Sports Centre in Kingsbridge, there will be a professional coach on hand to give advice and nurture fledgling talents. Given the terrible weather last summer our boys did really well and had a great season, so come and join the fun.

Our W.I are having a Coffee Morning tomorrow at the village hall, starting at 10.30am. All the usual stalls will be there and of course yummy cakes and biscuits, please support our ladies as they all work hard to help our W,I. If you are interested in joing our ladies, they have a monthly meeting on the second Thursday evening of each month and welcome guests. The meetings always have an interesting speaker, refreshments and an opportunity to ask questions after the talk.

Due to the W.I coffee morning, the regular Soup and Puds will be moved to next week, the 19th March. This event really is growing and has become very popular, so get there (village hall) early! The event starts at 12 noon.

The Jazz Club is to have an evening of Jazz and R&B on  Saturday 23rd of April.Tickets will go on sale at £15 each and the event will be held at Charleton Village Hall. Please contact Jayne Payne foe more details on 01548 531885.
