Last Tuesday was Jazz night in Aveton Gifford! Kingsbridge Jazz at A.G was proud to present The Storyville Jassband from Arnhem, Holland and what a treat it was! This wonderful band is booked for only 3 performances in the UK this year and so this visit was extra special! The Band leader was Peter Dobbe on trombone, vocals and guitar, the fabulous clarinet was played by Henk Van De Ven, boy did he make it sing! Michael Muller is a newcomer to the band on vocals and trumpet, Han Van Roojien was on double bass, the great Berry Schurring was on drums and Henk Van Mulligan was on banjo and guitar. What a fabulous line up and we were treated to some unbelievable solos on all instruments, this was a truly top notch and wonderful standard of musicanship. The itinerary included favourites like Riverside Blues and the Man I Loved. What a great time was had by all, and the eager fans were given a most wonderful encore at the end of the evening. The Band received a prolonged standing ovation at the end of the evening and we hope that these wonderful people will grace our shores again soon. The club welcomes visitors to the evenings which are held every first Tuesday of the month at the Basement Club in the Fisherman’s Rest, please visit their Facebook page for more info.
The village hall was the venue for Tony Porter’s talk about his new book last Friday. The evening was a very successful fundraiser for the Project Group, raising £171 for community causes. There was free wine on offer, Delia and Ros worked hard all evening to ensure everyone had a great time! Well done to all those involved and Tony’s book can be purchased from the Harbour Bookshop in Kingsbridge.
Tickets are now on sale for the A.G Film Festival which takes place on May 21st. If you haven’t entered your film, its sadly too late for this year as the competition closed on Monday. The tickets are available from the village shop.
You can buy DVD’s from the shop for the amazingly low price of just £1, they are pre-owned but in good condition and this is a very good fundraiser for our shop. If you have any dvds that you no longer want, they would be more than welcomed at the shop. There is a good range of subjects available and also some children s favourites too, so its well worth a look for the school holidays.
Tim and Peter have been working hard getting the swimming pool ready to open. They have painted the changing rooms and have made good repairs on the stone-work surrounding the pool, and everything is beginning to look shipshape. Well done to them, and thank you guys!
St Andrews has a Pentecost Praise service this week led by church members Karen and John Rowse. The service will feature many favourite readings and hymns and will start at the usual time of 11am..
