Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow – 18th December

The days now seem to be flying past as we approach Christmas Day, it’s less than a week to go now! If you are ticking off the ‘sleeps to Santa’ you may have noticed that the deadline for Christmas orders at the village shop has now passed us, although Dinah will still welcome enquiries and try to help out where possible. The village shop has now got some Christmas Trees for sale starting at £15 for a small one. They are grown locally at Cuckoo Farm, definitely no air  miles involved! If you are looking for a last minute gift there are still some of this years  calendars available, from the village shop. The calendar contains the 12 winning shots of the photo competition held earlier this year, an ideal way to show relatives our beautiful countryside, and they are reasonably priced at £6.50. The shop still needs our recycled carrier bags! Now that supermarkets have stopped supplying them, there is a definite shortage, so if you have any spare ones hanging about, please take them to the shop for re-use.

A reminder that the December quiz in the Fisherman’s Rest has been cancelled, and that there will be a Curry and Quiz night in the pub on Christmas Eve instead, starting at 7pm. This is a popular event and will be a fun evening, something to look forward too. The January quiz will return to its mormal date.

In St Andrew’s  this week there will be a family Carol Service starting at 11am. All your favourite carols will be included, and the Bible readings will be taken by different members of the congregation. There will be mince pies and Christmas Cake during refreshments after the service, and everyone is  welcome to visit for this most special service. Christmas Eve Communion will start at 9pm this year and Christmas Day family communion will be at 11am. Sunday 27th, will see a Team Service in St Andrew’s with representatives from all over the Modbury Benefice taking part.
