Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow, 18th May

It seems that our tractor boys have been on their travels again during the last week. Retired agricultural engineer John Foale and team set off from outside the Fishermans Rest early on Wednesday, and traversed Dartmoor calling on several destinations including Okehampton, where the convoy got lost? Well they got mixed up with school traffic in the lanes, and had head to head confrontations with several double decker buses, but were finally reunited with Mr Foale who somehow managed to ignore the melee building up behind him!! Well done to the  weary tractor group, they arrived back at the Fishermans Rest for a pint and a catch up on Saturday, keep going guys, you’re doing a great job in raising money for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust, I believe there’s a just giving page on Facebook to receive any donations.

Our Church and Village Fete will be held on July 1st this year, and the Grand Draw raffle tickets are now available from myself at the above number or Joanna Smaith at Matford. They are also availabe after church services each Sunday. There are many lovely prizes incuding Cream Teas at Avon Mill and a Golf lesson at Bigbury, we are all hoping for a lovely fete, all of the usual stalls will be there, Pony rides and the Childrens Entertainer will also be back. Hopefully, unless bird flu rears it’s ugly head, the beautiful owls will also be there to keep an eye on things and of course there will be teas and cakes in the hall too. The fete will open at 2pm, on July 1st, any draw prizes would also be gratefully received by me.

Our village shop is now stocking a small selection of vegan items, aswell as it’s usual range of goods. Please pop down and talk to Katherine if you need any special food items. The shop now is in it’s summer opening hours and will be open until 5.30pm most days, please consult the staff for Post Office opening.
