Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow, 27th September

Our Community Pool has closed for the winter season over the last weekend. In spite of the recent warm weather the water temperature has struggled to meet the minimum of 21 degrees c. The pool has been very well used this summer with lots of happy folks enjoying the water during our lovely summer. A great big thank you has to be said to all those lovely people that have helped in the organisation and running of the pool, giving their time and skills. Particular thanks to Peter Smith, who has kept all the equipment working and Colin Pearson, who visited the pool each day to check it out and keep an eye on things but well done to everyone for their help.

I’t Jazz Club night again on Tuesday October 1st, and this month’s musical guests are the aptly named trombone duo Slide by Slide! Kevin Grenfell and Richard Leach are well known at the club and are widely recognised as accomplished musicians on the jazz clubs circuit. The duo, together with their rhythm section, will delight with their upbeat numbers and Kevin’s cheerful banter and wonderful vocals. Richard Leach is classically trained and honed his jazz playing skills on the London jazz scene playing alongside such greats as Humphry Lyttelton, Acker Bilk, Terry Lightfoot and Johnny Dankworth, amazing!! Richard has also played with Pete Allen and after leaving that project started some bands of his own. Our boys have certainly served their apprenticeship with some of the very best in this wonderful diverse Genre. New members are always warmly welcomed and the Early Bird Menu will be available on club nights from 6.30 pm, pre-booking is a must so please contact the Fishermans Rest on 550284 before 6 pm on Monday September 30th.
