I had the great pleasure to visit the village hall and view the exhibition held by the Project Group last Friday evening. As promised there was an extraordinary amount of photos, some in books, some from excerpts from newspapers and magazines.There was so much information involved and the exhibition must have taken ages to set up, and the village duly turned out to view this amazing treasure trove. I did receive an amazing phone call from a gentleman who used to live here, and we chatted for about half an hour and talked about his school days here in A.G during the late 1940’s, all inspired by him seeing news of the exhibition on the village website! Well done to all involved with this wonderful event.
The school received a visit from the mother and sister of Alex Peguero Sosa this week. Mrs Janet Peguero Sosa, daughter Clare, and Mrs Tina Graham from K.C.C came to present the school with football kit, which was possible due to the generosity of folk in and around A.G. who contributed to Alex’s special day in the village last year. Alex attended the school here before moving on to K.C.C.  He was well known for his love of all sport, and he was an exceptional footballer himself. The school thanked Mrs Peguero Sosa and her family, Mrs Graham, and Alex’s friends for their wonderful gift. There was also enough money raised for a memorial bench, which has been placed  at Icy Park, not far from Alex’s home.
The A.G.M for the Allotment Society took place at the Fisherman’s Rest on Sunday evening. Unfortunately the turnout was poor, with only a fraction of the plot-holders represented. Nonetheless the business started with the re-election of the committee; as there were no new volunteers the existing committee was returned.The accounts were discussed and the society seemed to be in good shape financially.
With the end of the month in sight, it is time once again to think Poppy Appeal. Maggie Skeates is once again organising a Coffee Morning down at the Fisherman’s Rest on November 7th at 10.30am. Any offers of help would be greatly appreciated, and if you would like to donate items to sell, or provide cakes and raffle prizes, please contact Maggie on 550153. All proceeds will go to the Poppy Appeal.
One unpleasant message – again involving doo poo!! Oh dear,  it seems that there is a problem with dog poo around the shop and in Fore Street. Outside the shop is a poop hot spot with a really unfortunate instance of you know what being walked into the shop premises on someone’s shoe! Can we all please be vigilant and watch what our four legged friends are doing and where they are doing it please? There is no dog poo fairy and if you don’t pick up after your dog, it means that someone else has to, not really good enough, or fair is it? The irony is that there are plenty of poo bags nearby, supplied by the Parish Council and you can deposit the waste in ANY BIN these days, so there are no excuses.
St Andrew’s Church held its Autumn Fair last Saturday in the village hall. It was a lovely afternoon and once again the village folk turned out in droves to sample lovely cakes, buy plants and sit and enjoy refreshments and enjoy a good old fashioned chin wag!
Many thanks to all who helped out on the stalls, provided refreshments and manned the door. A total of £277 was raised for church funds. More photos on my facebook page. St Andrew’s has a Family Communion on Sunday with Rev Neil Barker leading.
