Unfortunately, our junior play park has had to be closed for a few days to allow some work to be done on it to comply with the latest safety inspection. Its turned out to be a larger job than expected hence the closure, the work is expected to take a few days. The play parks do have issues and the Parish Council is working with a group of parents who are endeavouring to find the best solution to replacing the parks over the next few years.

Kingsbridge Jazz at Aveton Gifford had a wonderful first meeting of 2020 last week with John Shillito’s Riviera Ramblers as the musical guests. The band delivered some wonderful Dixieland style, lively music with many popular tunes and songs. The club meets at the Fishermans Rest usually on the first Tuesday of each month. For February the club are welcoming the Two Counties Jazz Band as their musical guests, a highly traditional jazz band led by Graham Trevarton and features some of the most popular jazz musicians from Devon and Cornwall, interested? The club would be interested in welcoming new potential members as well as established old faithfuls! So why not visit and see for yourself.and sample the wonderful atmosphere, there is also a grand draw each month.

An area has been set aside to encourage hedgehogs in our parish. As you may know, our prickly garden helpers have been having a rough time of late and definitely need a helping hand, hence our hedgehog sanctuary. Lovely! Can you spare an area in your garden perhaps for wildlife? Could you make a bug hotel or hedgehog house? They like a neglected type of habitat with sticks and leaves either piled up or arranged to give shelter. You can buy hedgehog houses in garden centres, or its quite easy to make one out of garden waste, why not try, not a bad project to embark on.
