It seems that our school has once again been very busy, this time welcoming visitors to the school during the last week. Local M.P Mr Gary Streeter was given a tour of the school when he dropped in, visiting each class in turn and talking with the children and staff. Mr Streeter then went on to meet with members of The School Council; perhaps some budding politicians amongst them – we will have to wait and see. Mr Streeter clearly enjoyed his visit, and the school hopes to welcome him again in the future.
The school also welcomed Harry Owen, a member of the medal winning Team G.B gymnastic squad. Harry spent the morning working with all the children on their sponsored fitness circuits. They all had a great time, and it was great to see them joining in with Harry as he put them through their paces. After the children had finished their activities Harry talked about how he came to be involved with his sport, starting at the age of just 8 years old! And of course he talked about how hard athletes have to work to maintain their fitness and skill enabling them to reach the very heights in sport. At the end of the morning, the whole school was treated to a wonderful display of gymnastics which also involved school head, Mrs McCarthy Patmore! Well done to her and everyone who so enjoyed the day.
St Andrew’s Church does not have a service this week. Instead there will be a Team Service at East Allington’s own St Andrew’s, to celebrate St Andrew’s Day. It will also be a chance to say goodbye to St Andrew’s, East Allington as they join a new team of Churches, centering on the Stoke Fleming area. The service will start at 10.30 am; all the Modbury Benefice Churches will be represented and Rev Barker will be leading the worship.
Pippa Unwin has been busy organising a charitable collection in aid of the refugees in Greece. As a result she has been able to take a load of items from Aveton Gifford and Modbury to Penzance where Nancy Coulson and her organisation have been busy sorting, packing and getting the goods ready to be shipped in a huge container to Greece where it will be distributed among the islands where it is most needed. Clothing, shoes, tents and wetsuits for the volunteers who help people to get off the boats are just some of the much needed things that have been sent.Well done to Pippa and many thanks to everyone who has donated goods.
Just a reminder that Dinah is still taking orders for Christmas in the shop, and the Big Christmas Lights ‘Turn On’    will be on December 6th – there will be a procession from the hall at 6.0 pm.
