Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow, 29th November

The WI December meeting on the 12th will be held in the Fishermans Rest starting at 7.30pm. an amended venue due to the General Election using the village hall! Good luck to all the parties involved, just pray for an overall majority for someone!.

Following the events of the last couple of weeks, some good news. Jas and Sukh from the Holywell Stores at Bigbury have now agreed to take over the running of our village shop permanently, welcome to them and all good wishes for a successful future.

There are some Books of Condolence open at the shop in Peta’s memory, these will be presented to her family later. There is no set date for a funeral as yet for Peta, but a date in mid-December is expected, more details in this column as they become apparent. A vigil in St Andrews saw very many people come to pay their respects this week.

Well, there has been some absolutely amazing progress on the restorative work on John Foale’s old tractor! The ‘Beast’ is definitely looking more her old self now, sporting a fresh coat of shiny blue paint. The transformation has taken place at John’s workshop and he’s been helped by many willing hands. The aim is to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and the trip promises to be a difficult one, from John O Groats to Lands End on a tractor? Hope lots of cushions are available for the team. There’s a  Facebook giving page and the Fishermans Rest is selling mugs commemorating the event at £5 each. The event was launched at this year’s Classic Car Show and has already raised some money. A supercar is being organised and supplied by McClaren, leading to this momentous trip being dubbed the Tortoise and the Hare run. The run will take place in spring next year, a wonderful event to look forward to.

There’s to be another village Christmas lunch at the Fishermans on December 21st and this event is open to everyone. There will be a set menu with three different main course options including a vegetarian option. For more details and to book your place , please contact the pub on 550284 or call in and speak to Athenia and the team.
