Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow, 2nd March

The season of Lent is now underway with several Lent Courses around the Benefice. On Wednesday mornings at Bigbury Memorial Hall with Reader Mr Gil Snook, starting at 10.30am-11.30am starting on March 8th. There is another course at the Vicarage in Modbury  on Mondays starting this week, and continuing for four weeks beginning at 7.30pm-8.30pm with the Vicar Rev Matt Rowland . There will be a Lent course in A.G too at 1 Tidal View, which will begin on Friday March 10th at 2.30pm, booking through Rev Neil Barker please.

The Church of St Andrew and the congregation was left in shock this week following the sudden death of much loved organist Mrs Vanda Irish.. Vanda had enhanced the church services with her playing for many years, not only in A.G but across the Benefice. Her knowledge of music was unsurpassed and her loving and kind nature and sense of humour warmed everyone to her. Vanda was an accomplished player of Bridge and a keen golfer, a great person who will be sorely missed by all who knew her. In a poignant moment in last Sunday’s service, Mr John Rowse placed a candle and some flowers on the organ, a fitting show of love and respect to someone who is simply irreplaceable. Rest in Peace dear lady. Sending condolences to her daughters and their families at this sad time.

Its the monthly Parish Council meeting this Thursday at 7.30pm. In the village hall. There will be all sorts of news including talking about the employing of a new Parish Clerk, following the retirement on health grounds of the previous clerk. There will of course be news on all of the village organisations and how they are fairing in these challenging times, and I’m sure building projects will be on the menu too.

Looking forward to next week, the W.I will be meeting in the village hall on Thursday March 9th at 7.30pm. The speaker is Caroline Barker and the subject of her talk is … Pressing Ahead, that sounds really intriquing!!

The mobile library service will be here on Wednesday March 8th on the Icy Park/ Fore St junction from 9.30am-10.30am.

St Andrews will have a Sunday Worship service this week with the team lay reader Gil Snook, who I have heard isn’t too well writing this, get well soon Gil.
