Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow, 30th October

Our Remembrance  Day commemorations are not far away and thanks to Covid 19 they will be a bit different from the usual proceedings. The church will only be able to seat 45 people, due to social distancing so seating will be on a first come basis. The service will start at 10.50am at the War Memorial in the churchyard where the tributes to the fallen will take place with Royal British Leigeon representatives reading the names of the war dead. This years service will be led by Team Vicar Rev Matt Rowland. The congregation will then move into church for the remainder of the service.

The Modbury Mission Communtiy has also recruited  a new families worker, Mrs Sara Chapman, to work within the churches of St Andrews and St Georges, Modbury. Sara will be working 15 hours a week for the next three years within the community. Mrs Frances French has also joined the community as an ordinand and is training through our Mission Community.

Last Sunday wasn’t too bad weather wise, and lots of family groups were able to take part in the treasure hunt organised by the Play Park group. Lots of eager youngsters, all socially distanced of course, enjoyed searching high and low for the contriband. Everyone seemed to have a lovely afternoon, with some participants entering into the spirit of the day by arriving in halloween themed fancy dress.Well done to everyone involved with this lovely event.

SWW are carrying out essential works to the water supply, so your water may be discoloured, which is due to  sediments in the pipes and not due to polution..It’s recommended to run the taps until the water is clear, if you are on a meter you may be able to get a refund, more details on the village website.

Our Community shop is due to hold its AGM during the Autumn, but as with so many things the meeting cannot take place in the village hall due to the present restrictions, so, all the relevent documents are available to view on the village website/facebook page. Please take time to contribute, as your opinions are valued and will help to shape our shop for the future.
