A year ago, our community was devastated by the murder of Alex Peguero Sosa, and on Monday of this week a bench was erected at the top of Icy Park in memory of the local teenager. The bench was paid for by a group of Alex’s friends, having raised the money by having a day in memory of him at the memorial hall last year. Several projects have benefited from the money raised including football kit for teams at K.C.C. Alex was a well liked young man and had a love of all things to do with sport, especially football. The bench sits on a sunny spot at the top of the hill and reflects Alex’s love of football, having 2 footballers carved into its frame; Â it was made as an exclusive design in Plymouth. Alex will always be remembered kindly here where he grew up and in Kingsbridge where he was in school. R.I.P Alex.
The Church Fete will take place next weekend on Saturday July 11th. All the usual stalls will be available for the afternoon as well as pony rides for the children. “Uke n Sing” will be putting in an appearance starring, amongst others, the Rector Neil Barker, and they will play a varied selection of their repertoire. The Friday evening before the Fete will as usual be spent putting up all the various marquees and games, so if anyone out there can help with this task please come to the rectory field at 6.0 pm. There are still some Grand Draw tickets available in the shop and the pub, so please don’t miss out on them – there will be some available on the day too. All the fun starts at 2.30 pm
The Chuch loo has been mentioned this week. A former resident came to visit the Church and churchyard, and found that the light in the loo had been left on. Walkers please feel free to use the facilities, but please ensure that it is fit for use by other people. I found it in a poor state the other day with loo roll on the floor and other problems that can’t be mentioned here!
The Parish Council meeting will be held on Monday 6th July in the memorial hall at 7.30 pm – please come and raise your views and concerns.
On Thursday next week  the W.I will have a talk about artist Beryl Cook, and on Monday 20th July Girls Night Out singing evening will take place in the hall between 7-9 pm..
