Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow, 4th September

As you all know our church is part of a wider team of churches, Kingston, Ringmore, Bigbury,Modbury, and of course St Andrews here in Aveton Gifford. Well, one of our sister churches, St Laurence at Bigbury has a severe problem with its bells and bell tower, and some of their lady residents have created a beautiful quilt, featuring designs by a local artist. The sixteen ladies have each worked a square of the quilt and this beautiful future heirloom is one of the prizes in a Grand Raffle to raise funds for the church. I have been asked to make some tickets available in AG, so if you would like a ticket, they are priced at £2 each, please ring the above number, thank you, I will be placing posters around with more details.

St Andrews is continuing to have good numbers in church after resuming services post lockdown, and the church is very fortunate in having a good number of volunteers and service leaders. This Sunday’s service is another Sunday Worship led by Reader Michael Tagent, an old friend of the church and a brilliant speaker. Please join the congregation if you are on holiday, you will be very welcome!! The service will start at the usual time of 11am, no refreshments though and social distancing measures are in place.

The traffic is still building up in Fore St, so if you don’t have to go though the village please use the by-pass route, you will be quicker and won’t be delayed by vehicles trying to squeeze through the narrow streets. Please be aware also of pedestrians on the Tidal Road area, lots of people walk, cycle and horse ride down this most attractive part of our parish, speeding traffic seems to be a problem everywhere at the moment.

The next Parish Council meeting is to be held in the village hall at 7.30pm on Monday September 7th. With social distancing in place a maximum of 25 people are allowed in the hall at one time, so be early if you wish to attend.

Our shop is continuing to give good service with its new longer opening hours, so please support it; there are lots of goodies in there with local produce, and smiling faces to greet you!
