Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow, 5th August

I had some very good news this week regarding our wonderful cricket team. The boys are being able to play a few games this season and a couple of weeks ago they played the team at Holbeton. After a close match our white army secured a great win against the very much fancied Holbeton team, great result guys and keep up the good work!

A very much anticipated event has been postponed once again because of the covid restrictions. The great tractor run, which would encompass the length of the country, starting at Lands End and ending at John o Groats, will now take place in the spring of 2022, in aid of the Devon Air Ambulance Trust. The organisers have however planned a couple of fundraising events in the meantime in September.

The Pit Stop Challenge will involve teams of four removing two tractor wheels from a dummy axle, rolling them round the tractor, and replacing them back onto the axle; there will be a prize for the fastest time of the day. The event will be held on September 12th from 2.30pm, only over 18’s are able to take part, places will be limited so booking is advisable, call Alan Brooking on 07794431997. Everyone is encouraged to take part, mixed male, or female teams will be welcomed, the event will take place outside the Fishermans Rest.

The Dartmoor Dash will involve John and his tractor and some other vintage drivers plotting a course over the moors, again to raise funds for DAA Trust. This event will involve an overnight stay on Dartmoor, accommodation will be needed, so advance planning is advisable! A bacon roll breakfast will be available to all participants from the pub, and the dash will start from the pub at 9.30pm on Saturday September 18th. The tractors will take a route over the moors to Widecombe for lunch, then on to Belstone for a BBQ in the evening. The tractor train will then return at a leisurely pace through the lanes back to A.G. To book a place please contact Keith on keith@thetractorrun.org.uk to reserve it.

There is a wrong date in the Magpie for the church cream teas and open air service. It will not be this week, it’s to be held on September 5th at 3pm with the teas preceding it, all are welcome to attend. I will refresh this news later on. St Andrews will have a Holy Communion service this Sunday with Rev Matt Rowland leading. The service will start at the usual time of 11am.
