Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow, April 3rd

Well, even during these challenging times people are still being positive and making acts of kindness. It’s heartwarming to find a gift on your doorstep when you get back from work, and this week a family from Kingston has left cauliflowers on the doorsteps of residents at Icy Park., what a lovely gesture, thank you so much to our veggie fairy, you are absolute stars. Well, after such a positive comment I’m sorry to have to bring us down to basics again! Dog waste is again becoming a nuisance in our community. I walk a lot with my dogs and there really is an element of people who do not pick up after their dogs. I hate bringing this up again especially now with so much trouble for everyone but this really has to stop! Dogs are beautiful and loving companions, but dog waste is a carrier of all sorts of nasty germs and diseases. The path that runs by the A379 is particularly bad; please pick up after your dogs, its essential for a clean environment. Our village shop is doing a sterling job of providing the  necessary  supplies for everyone, well done to Jas and Sukh. They are asking for a maximum of three customers in the shop at any one time due to the small space, to keep staff and customers alike as safe as possible. Deliveries can still be collected from the shop when ordered over the phone.

There are many initiatives in place at the moment including foodbank runs and also pharmacy runs for people who are unable get to Kingsbridge or Modbury. Please consult the village website for more details. The Parish Council will be holding a virtual council meeting as of course all meetings are off at the moment. There is a lovely initiative too, to place teddy bears in windows so that when folk are out and about with their families that they can try to spot them, great fun!! Also pictures of rainbows have been appearing to support the NHS and to provide a hope and comfort to everyone, again how wonderful to have something positive to say! The Fisherman’s Rest is also doing takeaway meals. Please look on their website for more details

Sadly our church and all the other places of worship in our team are unavailable for worship but Rev Matt Rowland has a weekly reflection on the Modbury Mission Community website and also hard copies are available from the church building. The podcast includes the references for the appropriate Bible readings as well as a Sermon from Rev Matthew. We are still working in Kingsbridge at the moment as I’m writing this and I am more than happy to bring shopping home if required, please feel free to phone me on the above number, keep safe everyone and follow the guidelines.
