This week the weather has been a bit warmer, and the volunteers of the Aune Conservation Association conducted a litter pick down the Tidal Road on Sunday. The turn out was excellent with more than a dozen willing souls lending a hand, armed with bin liners, gloves and tongs. I was amongst the people who joined in and it was quite amazing what we found; everything from bottle tops to cardboard, and plastic, and bits of string, to bigger sheets of plastic which had literally welded itself to plants and along the ground. Not very nice for our wildlife as they could eat it and die. It really does ask a question of us, and perhaps we should be more careful of how we dispose of our waste and keep our beautiful river, an important asset and tourist attraction, clear of such debris in the future. At the end of the afternoon we had collected a large pile of rubbish, at least the river will be a bit cleaner from the efforts of the A.C.A. After all that work, what was needed was a nice cuppa, which we gratefully received from our friends at Milburn Orchard.
From a good deed to not such a good deed! There has been a letter circulating that purports to be from the Postcode Lottery. Someone in A.G has received a letter telling them that they have won £850,000 and goes on to tell them how to claim the money. The letter looks very official but there are one or two slip ups in the language, and when investigated it turns out to be a scam as they are charging a ‘processing fee’, which is what they are after. Please disregard any such letters, they will only cause you pain!.
Just a quick reminder that our Cricket Team will be holding their annual Big Boot Sale on Sunday, from 9-1 pm.
