Our W.I ladies met in the Fisherman’s Rest last week, as the village hall was in use as the Polling Station for the General Election. The venue made a nice change, and the speaker for the evening was Jeremy Wilson whose topic was The Scented Garden. Jeremy has worked in many large gardens including some work in stately homes, and now has his own nursery and specialises in creating scent in the garden. He proved to be a most informative speaker, introducing a variety of plants and explaining how to use them to their best advantage. He brought several different plants with him to bring his talk to life. President Meg Brett gave the vote of thanks. Meg also brought to the attention of the meeting this year’s resolution, which highlights the dangers of plastic invading the environment through things as simple as washing machines, and that they can expel Plastic Soup (waste from synthetic clothing) being discharged from the machine’s rinse cycles. To demonstrate this Meg, brought in a sample from her machine, which had trapped fibres in the filter, certainly food for thought.
Staying with the Fisherman’s Rest, the pub is looking for some part-time staff for the summer season. Waiting staff and Kitchen porters are needed, to work evenings and weekends; for more information please phone the Fisherman’s on 550284.
Oh dear, it seems that the village has suffered more criminal activity during the last week. There has been a burglary at Pulleys Close, with tools and belongings being taken, and residents are urged to be sure and make houses and sheds secure when left, and report any suspicious activity to the Police.
Morrisons in Kingsbridge has been closed this week so that a new Pizza display can be installed and also a Barista Coffee bar is being added. The store will re-open on Monday June 19th.
Our Cricket Club’s intrepid white army are continuing to fly the flag for the village and will have their next game on Tuesday June 27th at Yealmpton, the game starting at 6.00pm, good luck to them and please go and support them if you can.
The Fete will soon be upon us, and if anyone has any thing they wish to donate to any of the stalls please phone the above number and I can come and collect. St Andrews will have a Morning Prayer service this week, starting at the usual time of 11am.
