Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow, 18th May

I have news of a very unusual event in the village hall later this month. Jenny Beavon is holding a taster session of Meditational Circle Dance. Interested?  This form of dance is very ancient and is common to many different cultures, and is used to mark special occasions, rituals strengthening community, and encouraging togetherness, and can also be used as a basis for meditation. Jenny will teach the dances with rhythmic music and there is no need for a partner, just join a circle! All of this takes place in the village hall on Thursday May 24th  between 7.30pm-9.30pm with refreshments during the evening. Jenny can be reached on 01548 830937 for further details.

Its been Modbury Fair during the last week or so, and the Modbury Gospel Choir gave a concert in the White Hart to celebrate. Musical Director Jo Highley has been working the singers very hard during the last few weeks, and all the hard work certainly paid off with the superb harmonies resonating to the enthralled audience. The choir had two soloists; Jo Woodcock sang “I bid you Goodnight”, a lovely song about going to the Lord after life, backed by the choir, and Ivor the choir’s wonderful welsh veteran sang “Swing Low” which was just fantastic! How does this involve us here in A.G? Well look closely at the photo – there are 3 ‘locals’ in the choir, perhaps there should be a prize for guessing! It was a great evening and the choir had a collection for Water-aid, as some members of the choir will travel up to Bristol to sing at a huge concert to raise money for this worthwhile cause.

There is at long last some positive news from the shop committee. There has been a new appointment to the position of shop keeper, and her name is Peta Harper. She will take over on June 1st,  so please welcome her and continue to support our shop.

St Andrews Fete is to be held on July 14th this year and the Grand Draw tickets can  now be purchased from myself on this number; 07779290653,  or on the day. The Fete will be held on the Rectory Lawn and will have all the usual stalls and attractions and teas served in the village hall. It will be opened this year by our new vicar Rev Matt Rowland at 2pm. This week the church will have a Songs of Praise service, led by myself and with hymns chosen by members of the congregation. Everyone is welcome and there will be refreshments after the service.
