I have to start this week’s news with an apology, last week I said that the date for the Annual Meeting was the 1st of May, well its not, it’s the 8th, oops! The ordinary Parish Council meeting will take place beforehand at 6.30pm, the annual meeting to follow at about 7pm. There will be reports from the village organisations and it will be good to here how everyone is getting on.The meeting will take place in the village hall.
The village shop has got into the spirit of spring by having some plants for sale. The plants have been donated by villagers and are a crucial help to the shop, and prices are very reasonable with a nice variety of plants for sale. Also if you have any spare plants or seedlings, why not donate them to the shop?.Staying with the shop, the annual photographic competition to create shots for the village calendar is now open, so get your camera’s out and go snap our lovely surroundings and help create next year’s calendar!
There will be some work on the telegraph poles in Glebeland and on Pittens Field which may mean at certain times the footpath from Icy Park to the underpass may not be accessible. Western Power are replacing some of the poles and may need to close the path.
It seems incredible but it will soon be time for Jazz again! The May meeting of the Kingsbridge Jazz at Aveton Gifford will take place on Tuesday May 2nd in the Jazz Cellar at the Fisherman’s Rest. The jazz starts at 7.30pm but as usual the Early Bird special menu will be available from 6.30pm, in plenty of time to eat before the music starts. Booking is essential and the last date to book your meal is 6pm on Monday May 1st. There are some very tasty options for mains and sweets, more details from the pub on 550284. This months musical guests are Kevin Grenfell’s Jazz Giants, with Kevin playing trombone and delivering some stunning vocals too. Kevin is a very popular artist and its great to see him and the band back at the Fisherman’s, with his allstars, including very special guest Pete Allen on reeds! The band has a distinct and very individual sound and offers a mix of classic numbers and old favourites ranging from ‘Traditional Songbook to Contemporary, all performed with wonderful musicianship. So come on down, members are always pleased to welcome guests and new members.
St Andrews will have a Sunday Worship service starting at 11am, with Michael Tagent leading.
