Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow – 24th February (none next week, Rosie is away.)

This week’s report will cover the next two weeks as I will be away in Israel for 10 days.

Our school has had some wonderful success recently in the Key Stage 2 SATS tests, coming 4th out of 391 Primary schools in Devon with 90% pass in all tests, well done to everyone. Staying with our school, the netball team has once again been successful in the South Devon Area Finals. Emma, Freya, Niamh, Rosie, Charlotte, Jessie, Ted, Charlie and Reuben came fourth overall, just missing out on third place due to a very tough final match.  Well done to all the youngsters and netball coach Mrs Sarah Cadle for all her hard work. The school also had a recent visit from the Devon Fire Service who gave everyone some tips on fire safety. The children also had the opportunity to try on some uniforms, discovering just how heavy they were!! Photos of these activities can be seen on the school  website.

The Mobile Library will be coming on Wednesday March 1st from 9.30am-10.30am in the hall car park. The next Parish Council meeting will be on Monday March 6th at 7.30pm in the village hall. The next W.I meeting will take place in the village hall on Thursday March 9th at 7.30pm. This months speakers will be The Plymouth’s Street Pastors, who provide non- judgemental pastoral support  to any and all who need help on the streets. This will be a very interesting evening, and our ladies will welcome any guests that would like to come for the evening. There will be refreshments served and a chance to ask questions at the end of the evening.

Kingsbridge Jazz at Aveton Gifford will be meeting again on Tuesday March 7th at the Fisherman’s Rest. The jazz will start at 7.30pm, but if you would like to eat beforehand the early Bird Menu will be available to pre-order up until Monday 6th March at 6pm. There is a choice of main course and sweets to choose from and always proves popular, so be sure to order early. This months muscial guests will be Dave Morwoods Rascals of  Rhythm, they sound intriguing but I have no more information than that as I write this, so a surprise is in store for all of us! The standard of the acts that visit the club is outstanding and well worth a visit to hear a variety of sounds and syles of Jazz and in the atmospheric surroundings o the club basement, what could be more enjoyable?

St Andrew’s will be having another instalment of the Bible course for Lent on Tuesday evening starting at 7.30pm with Michael Tagent. The course explores different aspects of the Bible, and promotes discussion of the week’s topics. The course will run right up to Easter week. This week St Andrew’s will have a  Family Communion Service with Rev Barker leading.. Next Sunday, March 5th,there is a Sunday Worship service with Michael Tagent
