Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow, 26th January

Our new Vicar has now been installed at a wonderful service in St George last Wednesday. One notable absentee was unfortunatley Bishop Nick of Plymouth, who was taken ill. In his absence the Arch-Deacon of Totnes  Douglas Detmer did a wonderful job of deputising on very short notice. All the hymns were chosen by  new Incumbent  Rev Mathew Rowland, and the service had an informal and family atmosphere. Rev Mathew was introduced to the representatives from all the churches in the Benefice and took his vow to serve as Vicar of the 5 parishes. The Gospel reading was given by Michael Tagent and the Arch- Deacon gave a wonderful sermon. Rev Mathew was ceremoniously led to the priests stall and was welcomed formally by representatives of all the village organisations as well as representatives from the District and Parish Councils. The intersessions were led by Joyce Howitt. Rev Rowlands first service at St Andrews will be this Sunday January 28th at 11am.

Great news from our village shop! A new shopkeeper has been appointed! Our lovely Dinah will be retiring at the end of March after a splendid  five years in office. Well done to her for all the positive changes she has made and in growing the shop business so well. The shop committee are proud to announce that they have appointed Andrea Catling to take over from the beginning of  April.  Andrea is the perfect choice as she has many years experience in retail and catering. She comes all the way from Loddiswell and is looking forward to this new challenge and meeting everyone in the village. Andrea wishes to carry on in the same vein as Dinah and wishes her a happy retirement, as I’m sure we all do.
