Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow, 26th October

If you havn’t had time to see the beautiful art works of our Art Trail artists, you still have a couple of days to do so. There are displays at the Fishermans Rest, Stonecot Studio, 17 Icy Park,19 Glebeland and Mewstone Masonary on the bridge coming into the village. This year has been a bumper year for our artistic folk ad the work has been appreciated by many happy visitors.

There will be a coffee morning in aid of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal in the Fisherman’ s Rest on Saturday November 3rd. The event will take place in the lower function room and is being organised by Maggie Skates. There will be all the usual stalls, white elephant, books, toys etc plus the all important tea, coffee and cakes. If you can help in any way please contact Maggie at Moles End cottage, Fore St.The event will start at 10.30am and will  also have a raffle.

The Project Group will have a display in St Andrews church to commemorate the end of the first World War. There will be lots of information on all those brave souls who went to war from this parish. The Roll of Honour in church gives the names of 96 people from the parish who served in some capacity during the conflict and includes one woman, who was a nurse. Since the memorial was erected, more names have come to light and there will be an additional name read out with the reading of the names on Remembrance day. There are nearly 20 people that gave their lives from A.G during the war, quite a large proportion as the population in those days was only about 6oo, food for thought. The exhibition will run from Friday November 9th and will continue for the entire month. The church is open during daylight hours, 8am -3.30pm to view this display. Many thanks to Ros Brousson, Pippa Unwin and Delia Elliot for organising this event.

There is a Drop in Event in the village hall tomorrow concerning the Neighbourhood Plan. The Steering Group has organised this opportunity to come and have your say about the future housing developments for this parish. The doors will open at 10am-1pm and its a great time to come and voice your opinions. The Affordable Housing Enabler and the Devon Rural Housing Enabler will be present to field your questions on the subject. Please come and support this event as it’s vital to the future of our community.

St Andrews will have a Family Communion Service on Sunday starting at 11am, with Rev Matthew Rowland leading and its Bible Sunday this week!
