It seems amazing but here we are in February already! There’s plenty to look forward to this month, and it’s Jazz time again next Tuesday, February 6th, and Kingsbridge Jazz at Aveton Gifford is looking forward to welcoming a favourite act again this month. Fret and Fiddle are a five piece band that are devotees of the late great Stephane Grappelli. Their Grappelli Swing Evening charts the life of the famous violinist from the night clubs of 1920,s Paris, through the war years, when Grapelli played at many of London’s top hotels, including Claridges, into the great man’s golden years when he played and toured into his late eighties; remember him on the BBC with Parkinson playing that wonderful duet with Menuhin? The band will play favourites such as “My Funny Valentine” and “Anything Goes”. The band, fronted by Sally Minchin and Andy Chislett, provide a lively evening of entertainment, with cheerful banter and insight into the life of a truly great artist. The evening also has a raffle to aid club funds.Guests and new members are welcomed by the club and the entry fee will be £10, members £8. The early bird menu is also available from 6pm, booking is essential. Please phone the Fishermans on 550284 before 6pm on Monday 5th February.
Just to mention a perennial problem – Dog poo again!! Can folk please be vigilant and watch what their dog is doing off the lead, especially on the green and in our churchyard, and on our footpaths around the parish. This problem is unpleasant and of course is a health hazard, so please watch what your pooch is doing!
There has been another phone scam alert, this time from people saying that they are from the HMRC about tax supposedly owed, just remember that these people are clever and use many tactics to gain your information so please be aware and don’t give out details over the phone.
There are lots of beautiful snowdrops on the public areas of our parish, and unfortunately some folk are picking them! The flowers make seed for the following year, so please bear this in mind!
St Andrews has a Sunday Worship this Sunday, starting at 11am with Reader Michael Tagent.
