Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow, 3rd September

On Bank Holiday Monday our Classic Car Show took place on the village green. There were all manner of lovely old vehicles on display, many having travelled great distances to get to our village. There were over a hundred cars ,vans and old tractors there for people to see and admire, from stately Jaguars, to a wonderful 1960’s Vauxhall Cresta with its flared wings, to dear old Mini’s, and two truly wonderful VW camper vans, one decked out in red and white with colourful cushions and curtains inside. There were also some lovely old ‘moggie thou’s’,( Morris 1000) including a van version, which you could either start on a key or a starting handle – happy memories! It was a truly great day for our village and we had a celebrity amongst the visitors, Jay Kay singer with Jamiroquai, a British band  which also included, Toby Smith, Stuart Zender, Derrick McKenzie, Rob Harris, Paul Turner. The band was formed in 1992 and their music was in the acid jazz/funk style, being best known for their music video to their hit single Virtual Insanity. The group holds two Guinness World records, one for fastest ever recording on an aeroplane! Their 1996 album  Travelling Without Moving holds the record for the best selling funk album in history. The band has won numerous awards in their career and are still performing today, last year having performed at the 02 arena in London.Jay Kay is also a classic car enthusiast and has 90 in his own collection!

Some exciting news  concerning the  wildlife here came to me last week, It seems that we have an osprey on the river. He is quite happy patrolling our river at the moment, how wonderful is that?  Our river has a diverse and plentiful system of wildlife and its a pleasure to welcome such a beautiful bird.
