This week I have some very exciting news, re our new Rector. On July 21st, interviews were held in Modbury and three candidates applied for the position of Rector of the Modbury Benefice. Out of those interviews an offer was made and the Reverend Matthew Rowland has now been appointed Priest in charge or Rector Designate. Rev Mathew is married to Louise and they have two young daughters, Isabelle and Emily and they are expecting a new baby in November. They will take up their new life here in January and a special service will be held in one of our churches on January 17th 2018. I’m sure we will all look forward to that day .
On Sunday, when walking the dogs through the green, an amazing sight met my eyes, a flock of sheep were happily grazing on our lush public space. They had escaped from the field at the end of the green (Ros’s field). It was nice to see them so happy, but this peaceful, pastoral scene could have had a very different outcome if not for the sterling efforts of two local youngsters to keep them on the green, and not straying onto the road. Well done to those two young people, you acted with a great deal of maturity to help in this difficult situation. The sheep’s owners were contacted by Penny and all was eventually well. Can I please re-iterate that if folk are walking in the countryside, yes enjoy it but please shut gates!
The Village Show will soon be upon us again, it’s being held in the Village Hall on Saturday August 12th. The hall will be open for entries at 8.30am and will close for judging at around 10.30am. A.G residents took part in the Carnival procession last week. Members of Hannah Winzer’s Zumba class danced and Zumba’d their way round a very soggy Kingsbridge to the strains of the Crooked Tempo Samba Band. The rain did eventually stop and all 12 group members enjoyed the experience, well done to all of you! For the next two weeks Hannah is offering her Zumba class at £2.50 per session, the sessions take place in the village hall on Wednesday evening at 6.45-7.45pm, and also on Thursday mornings 9.15-10.15,am, so why not give it a try, contact Hannah on hannah.funfitness@googlemail.com.
St Andrews will have a Sunday worship service this Sunday starting at 11.am
