It seems that there is quite a lot of concern over the status of some of the village organisations, the latest being the Allotment Association here in A.G. It seems that quite a few of the allotment holders are giving up, and at the moment there is no-one on the waiting list. Our allotments are at risk because if they are not filled, the association will not get the rents for the plots and this of course, is a serious concern, raising viability issues. It is great fun having somewhere to grow your own veg and flowers and its a great social time, meeting neighbours, swapping veg and fruit with other plot holders, and of course having fun and some rivalry entering the village show! The village shop will be closed on Friday lunchtimes for now due to staff holidays for the next week or so (1-2pm). Dinah’s husband John is now out of hospital and is back at home, but still needs a lot of looking after and has to take things at a steady pace. God Bless and feel better soon!
This years Classic Car Show has proved to be the best one ever, raising a staggering £6000, post expenses. The weather was truly wonderful on the day and soaring temperatures brought out the visitors in their droves.This event just goes from strength to strength over the years and that has been due to the hard work of the committee. This year a number of stalwarts are retiring from this task with Tony Porter and Mr and Mrs Abrahall stepping down, so well done to them for all their efforts over the last ten years. So many of the village facilities have benefited from the funds raised by the Car Show: the Hive pre-school, the Tennis Court and the Community Swimming Pool, to name just a few. Also well done to everyone who volunteered to help with all aspects of the show,thank you all so much.
There are quite a few consultations taking place around the region re the proposal to merge SHDC with West Devon Council. The ones nearest to A.G are at Modbury in the Memorial Hall on September 19th at 3-7pm; Â Kingsbridge September 11th, 3-6pm in the library; Â also at the Farmers Market on 16.09; Â and Salcombe, September 9th 10-12pm at Whitestrand; Â and Ivybridge September 10th, Active Ivybridge 10-4pm. So be sure to visit the ones near you and ask questions and share your opinions on this most important of subjects.
St Andrews will have a Sunday Worship, family oriented service this week starting at 11am on Sunday morning. All are very welcome to attend and the service will be led by Reader Joyce Howitt.
