Our W.I ladies are holding an open meeting on Thursday June 12th. The doors of the Village Hall will be opened to visitors from other W.I groups around the South Hams and also any other interested parties. The W.I. meeting will take place at 7.30pm, with the usual business and reading of the minutes and the meeting will be declared open after this, at around 8pm. The speaker, Mr John Risdon will then be introduced, his topic for this month being Coastal Defences. After the talk the competitions, Flower of the Month and Summer Flowers (any medium) will be judged. After all this excitement, members and their guests will be treated to a Bring and Share Supper. Keep an eye out for the posters which will be circulating around the village for further information, also the new edition of the Magpie will carry the details of the meeting.

St Andrews Church held their regular P.C.C. meeting last week. The officers for the coming year were elected and also members for the various Church committees were appointed. The Church together with children from the school planted some poppy seeds around the war memorial to mark the centenary of the start of W.W.I and also as a tribute to those who gave their lives. A report was given by the Fabric Committee on repair work due to be started soon, including work to repair the roof and replace ridge tiles and guttering damaged during the winter storms. This work is due to be started in the next few days, weather permitting. There were also reports from the Rector Neil Barker and Churchwarden and also a report from the recent Deanery Synod meeting. A plant was presented to Church Secretary Mrs Karen Rowse and husband John to mark their 21st wedding anniversary and to thank them for all the work they do for the Church. The meeting was closed by Rev. Barker with a prayer, the next meeting will be in September. The wonderful Lupridge Singers will be giving their Summer Concert in Church this Sunday, 1st June at 3.00pm, all will be welcomed warmly and a cream tea will be served after the concert.

Just a quick reminder that our cricketers will be entertaining Modbury for their first home match of the season at the Shooting Field this Sunday, June 1st, the match is to start at 2.00pm, so please come and support them on this important match day.
