Village Voice by Rosie Warrilow – 5th September

The weather, being somewhat unpredictable of late, led to the planned Music on the Green event being cancelled because the village green was waterlogged again. The sound of music was still heard in A.G though as three local bands entertained folk in the Fisherman’,s Rest; Ella, Bad Knees Blues Band and the splendid Raggle Taggle Band did a wonderful job of raising the roof and providing great music to sing along and dance to. Talented Ella sang some pop songs and the Bad Knees boys blasted out their brand of blues, big and noisy with some very well known tunes, and the Raggle Taggle finishing the evening with their lively Irish Folk/Rock music. It was a lovely evening with everyone getting into the music and really enjoying themselves.

The necessary work to prune and maintain the trees edging the football pitch has again unfortunately had to be postponed due to the green being so wet at the moment. The work will now take place later on this month and will be carried out by S.H.D.C’S Tree Surgeons. This pruning work is vital to maintain the health of the trees and to manage them correctly. Ivy growing on the trees will be removed and dangerous or broken boughs will be pared back. No mature trees will be felled and the wild plum trees will not be affected. The clearing of undergrowth will also take place in order to recover ground lost from the football pitch and also to provide a proper safety margin at the side of the pitch.

St Andrews Church is back to normal this week and is offering a Family Service at 11.00 am and all are welcome to attend. St Andrews is also the venue on Sunday evening for a Choral Evensong with the wonderful Chorus Ecclesiae, conducted by Robin Brett. This service will start at 6.00 pm and again all are welcome.

The Parish Council will meet on Monday 8th September and will be welcoming Paul Jones from the school. He will be answering any questions you may have about our school and the running of the Federation.
