The weather was indeed kind in A.G at the weekend for the wedding of William McMullen and Eleanor Breary. The threatening clouds stayed at bay as the young couple entered St Andrews Church on Saturday morning. The church was packed with family and friends and the happy gathering was in good voice throughout the service, actively cheering the couple on. A family friend sang and played the guitar during the service and was greeted with rapturous applause. St Andrews church choir also sang and the marriage was conducted by the Rector Rev. Neil Barker, back on duty following his hip operation. The couple left church in bright sunshine for a reception at home in Ashford.
This weekend the Village Hall was the setting for the Memorial Day for Alex Peguero Sosa. Alex’s friends organised this event in an effort to raise money in his memory for local children’s charities. The event had something for everyone including teas served by Jan Laidlaw and her helpers. The many stalls inside the hall included, Name the teddy, a sweet stall and a raffle, there was also music and games, including A,G’s famous greasy pole in the Rectory Gardens and a burger van in the car park. The event was extremely well organised by the youngsters and received a constant stream of visitors during the day. The charities that will benefit include Hope for Howard, hopefully a memorial bench on the football pitch, football kit for K.C.C sixth formers and help for sport based projects in A.G primary school. Principal organiser was young Ollie Stainton and Ella, well done to the youth of A.G, for all the hard work put into this event.
On Bank Holiday Monday A.G will again be the destination for all kinds of veteran cars and their enthusiastic owners. This year will be slightly different as the proceeds will also go to various childrens charities in the village. The usual attractions will be in place though, to make this popular event a success. Many of the entries in the actual car show are from local proud owners and its always worth a visit to see if you can spot your favourite vehicle. There are always many and varied supporting stalls, something for everyone. The event starts at 11am and continues until 4pm.
