Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow – 26th February

Our Neighbourhood Plan Consultation went very well on Saturday, with lots of people attending the village hall with a great atmosphere and lots of lively discussion. There was a good response to the topics on display and these will be written up to form the basis of the next stage of the Consultation. If you couldn’t attend or have thought of an idea you would like to raise, don’t panic! There will be a suggestion box at the village shop or you can visit the village webpage/Neighbourhood Plan. This was a very friendly event and visitors were able to sample home-made biscuits and cake during the discussions. The Working Group would like to thank everyone who attended and all those who provided the lovely refreshments and helped to serve them.

Tuesday night is  Jazz Club night again and the Club are pleased to welcome the Pete Allen Band this month. Pete Allen first founded his band in 1978 and made over 30 appearances on the well known BBC programme Pebble Mill at One, and they have also made many appearances on regional T.V including a six week series for HTV. The band have made lots of cd’s of their work and have toured extensively in Europe, and have also attended many prestigious jazz festivals and clubs . The band line-up is; Pete Allen, clarinet and sax; Andy Dickens, trumpet; Bobby Fox, trombone; Dave Moorwood, banjo, guitar;  Dave Henratty, bass; and Ritchie Bryant on drums. The club welcome guests and the event starts at 7.30pm on Tuesday evening at the Fisherman’s Rest.

This month also sees the beginning of Lent, and there is a Lent Course taking place in the village at Tidal View, opposite the pub. The course is entitled “The Prayer Course” and is centered on the Lord’s Prayer; the sessions last for about an hour beginning at 2.30pm. There is also a course in Modbury, “Too Busy Not to Pray” on Wednesday evenings – if anyone would like to go I am able to give lifts, contact details as above. St Andrew’s this week has a Family Communion service which starts at 11am with Rev Neil Barker leading.
