Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow – 31st July

With August now racing towards us at a rate of knots, it’s time to remind ourselves that the village show will soon be taking place in the village hall. This popular event will take place on Saturday August 8th and the hall will be open to exhibitors from 8.30 am  to stage the entries. There is a wide variety of classes for flowers, fruit and vegetables. There are also classes for craft and photography, baking and special classes for the children and young folk of the village. All children who go to the Primary School are eligible to enter in this special section. Schedules with entry forms are available from the village shop and must be returned there by August 6th. Entries can be made on the day,if there is room in the class. There is an entry fee of 10p per class. On the day the hall will be closed for judging between 10.30-2.00 pm. After 2.00 pm the hall will be opened for viewing by the public, and of course to see if you’ve won anything!! The prizes will be presented at around 4.00 pm.

Dinah has been given lots of D.V.D’s when people have been thinning out their collections of late, and she has been selling them in the shop for a £1 each. The shop maintenance fund has benefited greatly from the sale of these D.V.Ds and demand is starting to outstrip supply. Are there any more available in A.G? Any that can be found to help the shop would be very welcome, and most gratefully received. Dinah has also been asked to save cardboard boxes and now has several in the shop, so if you need any please ask her.

The Allotment Association Barbecue sadly had to be cancelled due to the poor weather last weekend. The good news is that it will now take place on Sunday 9th August, again weather permitting, so keep an eye on the weather forecast!

With the school holidays now getting underway, it’s good to remember that the Fisherman’s Rest has a skittle alley that can be booked, and an outside large version of the connect 4 game to be played with. The village hall has a table tennis club which meets onWednesdays at 7-8.00 pm, all equipment is provided and all age groups catered for; just right for working off some energy even if the weather is not so nice as we would like!  St Andrew’s has a Sunday Worship service this Sunday which starts at 11 am with Reader Michael Tagent leading.
