Village Voice by Rosie Warrilow, 1st February

With Spring just around the corner, there are lots of events to look forward to in the near future. On Tuesday February 5th, its Jazz Club night again and this months musical guests are Hotsy Totsy, an all female group returning to entertain us again. The ladies play many different instuments between them and seemlessly move from one to another with pleasant banter and humour! Their programme consisits of glorious instrumentals with wonderful harmonies on the vocals, they also have some original arrangements of both classics and popular music. The girls are well known throughout the jazz circles and have appeared at many festivals and venues around this country. This entertainment promises to be different and lively and of course  the Early Bird menu is available on club nights too, from 6.00pm, please phone the Fishermans for more details.. The Jazz starts at 7.30pm with everyone welcome to attend.
Our intepid stonemason Pippa Unwin is at it again! She has travelled with the British Team to Breckenridge, Colarado, for the Snow Carving  World Championships. Pippa has been doing this for quite some time now; she and the rest of the team did dancing bears last year, so what was this years entry? Well a wonderful carving of Ballet Dancing hippos emerged from the snow and the detail was just amazing with the snowy creatures looking very happy to be dancing out in the cold. The British Team, including our Pippa came  a very creditable third, with Mexico first and Germany coming second with their amazing efforts. There are more photos on the village Facebook page.

The problem of dog poo around the parish is still causing upset and annoyance with the play park, churchyard  village green and bypass footpath being particularly affected. Please can dog owners be vigilant and watch what their four legged pal is doing and pick up his mess. The problem is unpleasant and is of course a serious risk to human health. There are poo bags provided by the Parish Council on our green areas, please use them. There are no excuses for this sort of behaviour, please take more pride in our beautiful surroundings.

The next Parish Council meeting is on Monday February 4th and starts at 7.30pm; everyone is welcome to come and express their views and hear what our District and County Councilors have to say. The Neighbourhood Plan and Housing will be on the Agenda plus old ‘favourites’ such as parking,

Our village shop has some new lines to sample, it now stocks coffee and has some lovely local vegetables in stock, why not call in and ask for more details. The shop also has dvd’s and books for these cold days and a good range of interesting local produce.

The  next Soup and Puds Lunch is on Saturday February 9th, with a choice of these  lovely local goodies being prepared by local volunteers – all proceeds will go to the upkeep of our hall. The event will run between 12.30pm-2pm,and will cost £5 for the two courses.

StAndrews will have a Sunday Worship service with Reader Mr Michael Tagent leading. The service will start at the usual time of 11am and all are welcome, refreshments will be served after the service.
