Village Voice by Rosie Warrilow – 29th May

The Bank Holiday weather turned out to be better than forecast, and the re-opening of the Tennis Court benefited from it. People turned out in force to celebrate and enjoy this new and improved facility. Local coach Tim Brealey was on hand to give advice, and Philippa, Sarah and Claire organised the day’s events and refreshments, yummy cakes and biscuits were enjoyed by all. Well done and thank you to all involved.

There is also great excitement in the village about the swimming pool. The lease has now been signed and the village community will have more use of the pool. Keys and booking forms are available from the village shop and will cost £40 per key, which include a recuscitation course, compulsory for the keyholder, (i.e the person who’s name is on the application form). The courses will take place in the Village Hall on 30th May and 5th June, there will be only 12 places, so early booking is essential, you won’t be able to swim without having attended a course. Anyone can apply and anyone can use the pool, provided they have attended a recuss course, you don’t have to have connections with the school. The pool will be open after school hours to keyholders. Aditional recuss courses can be obtained for a £4 fee.

The Primary School children have been very busy during the last half term. Year 6, bless them, have come into school early at 8am to enjoy a brainy breakfast before they start their S.A.T.S tests. Cereal, toast, brioche and fruit were served until Noah’s mum made yummy bacon rolls, mmmm. Well done to all the children who took their tests. The Egrets class were able to enjoy some surfing at Bigbury; they had to wait though, as the original date had to be cancelled due to high winds. They did eventually get out on to the water, and had an amazing time with Mr and Mrs Connelly and their staff at Discovery Surf. Year 6 had a post S.A.T.S treat when they visited Devon County Show last Thursday – together with teachers Miss Naylor, Mrs McCacarthy Patmore and Mr McCarthy, they had a lovely time viewing all the animals and trying out an assortment of goodies from the stalls at the show.
