Village Voice by Rosie Warrillow – 21st October

A.G was a jolly place to be last weekend in spite of the showery weather. Saturday was, of course Tall Ships Charity day, and there was plenty of fun and games to enjoy! This year’s event had the theme of Pirates, and the staff at the Fisherman’s Rest took up this theme and dressed up as the rascally brigands for the day. There were Jack Sparrow look-alikes all over the place and some very fetching lady pirates too! After a very busy day, with loads of people enjoying the games, raffles, auctions and cream teas, to mention just a few of the activities on offer, local band The Penguins entertained folk well into the evening with their wonderful rock music. It was a very busy day and hopefully lots of money was raised for this amazing charity, more about that later.

There are a couple of things coming up on the 5th of November. Firstly, Maggie Skeates will be organising a coffee morning on behalf of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. There will be coffee, cakes, various stalls and a raffle. If you have any items you wish to donate to the sale, please contact Maggie on 550153 or email her at [email protected] The event will start at 10.30am on the 5th Nov. at the Fisherman’s Rest. Also on the same day there will be an ‘Unwanted Art’ Sale’ in the Village Hall between 10-4pm. If you have any artwork, paintings, drawings, pottery that you no longer want bring them to the hall with the price you require for those items plus your contact details. The aim is to give 10% of the profits to The Triangle Chemotherapy Unit at South Hams Hospital. Any unsold items will be returned to their owners. Nick and Jill Bremer are organising this, and they can be reached on   854034 for further details.

With the end of the summer our shop is now having a Great Ice Cream Sale with many delicious ices now at reduced prices. Further details can be obtained from the shop staff. Staying with the shop, the new 2017 calendar can now be purchased, with photos by local budding David Baileys –  it will make a lovely Christmas gift at £6.50 each. Money raised by selling the calendar will go towards the upkeep of the shop building and new equipment.  The shop is open 7 days a week, opening hours may vary.

St Andrews has a Family Communion Service this Sunday at 11am which will be led by Rev Neil Barker. On Sunday 29th October there will be another Family Communion led by visiting Priest Rev. Michael Chatfield. This service will also start at 11am.
