WARNING! Phone scam – elderly people targeted.

Police Community messaging has just passed this on; please warn anyone you feel might be vulnerable.

Elderly residents throughout the Devon and Cornwall region are being targeted by a national ‘telephone fraud’ scam.

A person claiming to be a police officer or from your bank will phone and claim your bank card has been used fraudulently.

They may suggest you call your bank to ensure the call is genuine. However, the phone line remains open and the fraudster will take down any banking details you will are asked .

You may also be asked to attend your bank to withdraw a sum of money to given to a local taxi firm or to a courier.

If you receive a phone call of this nature please end the phone call immediately; wait five minutes to clear the line or use another phone and report the offence to police as soon as possible.

Remember your bank or police will never attend your home to collect your bank card or ask for your PIN number.
