WORLD WAR 1 – THE SERVICEMEN FROM THIS PARISH WHO SERVED: 1914 – 18

AN EXHIBITION in this CENTENARY year.

November 1st – 31st
St Andrew’s Church, Aveton Gifford.

The church will be open from 9.0 am until 3.30 every day.

AVETON GIFFORD IN THE GREAT WAR ; 96 men are commemorated on our Roll of Honour in the church porch. 17 men gave their lives during the war years, and several died not long afterwards. Most of the 96 have now been identified; many of them were in the Devonshire Regiment or the Navy, and there is now information on most of them. In addition a few other servicemen with associations to the parish have also been identified who served at that time.

WWI-exhibition

We have recently been given many new photos, and also information about our servicemen kindly contributed by relatives, and this will be available to view for the first time. With Remembrance Day in this centenary year in mind, we will have the exhibition on display for the whole of November in the Lady Chapel, so that relations and family friends may browse through the documents and photos at leisure, and spend a little quiet time there if they should so wish.

For information about the display, records or servicemen; please phone Ros Brousson 01548 550 792. For information about the church and display; please phone Rosie Warrilow 07779 290 653.
